January 24 Investiture Anyone who hasn't been invested please click
here and follow link to Scout Law & Promise. You must know
this before you can be invested, so please work on learning this over the
next few weeks. Also have a good look around the rest of the Explorer
Scout section to see what is expected of an Explorer Scout in general. You will also need a Uniform (Shirt - SGS Outdoors, Necker see Kit) before we can invest you. January 14 New Explorer Unit at ChapeltownNew Explorer Unit at Chapeltown From the 19th of January Don District Explorers @ High Green will become – Don District Explorers @ Chapeltown! The team at the 82nd Chapeltown have very kindly offered to run this part of the Unit from now on, enabling Andy Hindley to run an ‘Activities’ Unit on an irregular basis. The Unit will meet on Monday evenings at the 82nd HQ on Burncross Road, initially from 7:30pm to 9:30pm, with the option to move the time and meeting day in the future. All the members of the Unit @ High Green will be moving to Chapeltown, as well as one or two from the Unit @ Grenoside. With the Young Leaders already meeting at Chapeltown, the Unit will have a healthy membership from the start. The Unit will be a natural progression for Scouts in the area, and of course is open to all teenagers between the age of 14 and 18 – as long as they are prepared to take the Scout Promise! Andy Hindley will
be running the new Activity Unit on an ‘as required’ basis. With his own
knowledge, skills, qualifications and experience behind him he will be running
hiking and climbing activities; and with his contacts will be able to offer all
sorts of other outdoor events for Don District Explorers.
Freezer CampFreezer Camp The ‘Freezer Camp’
is an event run every year by Hesley Wood, and this year we will once again be
attending as a Unit. To keep the cost down we will be sharing our site with
Grenoside Scouts and an Explorer Unit from Burton on Trent. You will be sleeping in tents, but we
have booked a building for cooking, eating, hanging around in etc, and in case
of really inclement weather! The Leaders of course, will be sleeping
inside, because we’re wimps – sorry I mean, err, we need to be fresh in case of
emergencies, to cook breakfast, we’ve done it all before etc etc… Rough Programme Friday – Arrive after tea, pitch tents, look for missing pegs etc,
followed by a ‘Wide Game’ run by Hesley staff. Saturday – full of
activities provided by the site, such as climbing, abseiling, archery, zip line, assault course, bouldering wall,
orienteering, inflatables, buggies etc. In the evening there will be a disco and other
activities Sunday - a day of
competitions and challenges, with prizes up for grabs. This camp is
normally brilliant, as all the activities available would normally cost a
fortune, but we are able to run this camp for just £35. This includes all the
activities, camp fees, food etc – everything but for a small amount of spending
money!
