Iron Scout Camp

Iron Scout Camp 2009

Date: 10th – 12th July

The ‘Iron Scout’ is a new competition being run by the District Scouts – and we’ve allowed to participate. It will be held during a camp at Walesby Forest Scout Camp Site. The ‘Iron Scout’ part is based on a triathlon; Cycling, Canoeing and Running. The competition for Explorers is for individuals or teams of 4-6.

The cost of this camp will be £30, or…

You can attend as a Young Leader, helping run the activities but not taking part in them, for £5 for the whole weekend, or…

If you are unable to attend for the whole camp but would like to take part in the Iron Scout Competition on Saturday you can come just for the day, at a cost of £5 to include lunch and evening meal.

If you want to go - and you've all received a letter about this - then you'll have to let me know and pay by this Thursday!

Beckford Peg

A big thank you to everyone who helped at the Scout’s ‘Beckford Peg’ incident hike competition – once again it wouldn’t have gone half as well without your help.

There may have been a few squashed Scouts on the bypass if we hadn’t have been there in the morning to guide them across…

Running a base called ‘marshmallow gun firing’ in the afternoon was much more interesting. Thanks to Adam and Nathan for being targets. Apparently the ‘5-second rule’ also applies to marshmallow ‘mellets’ fired at you…

There are some new photos below as well.

St George's Weekend - thankyou

. A big thank you to all of you that helped out at some point over the weekend. Some of you managed a few hours, others the entire weekend; but it was all appreciated!

We had one hectic weekend:

  • Running bases for the Scouts night hike on Friday – not finishing until 1AM the next day. AND then having to put up tents at Hesley…
  • Helping set up activities on Saturday morning.
  • Marshalling the car park after lunch
  • Taking Beavers/Cubs/Scouts around the activities in the afternoon, or helping to run activities as a Young Leader
  • Marshalling the car park in the evening.
  • And finally helping to clear up1

So once again a big thank you to all, it was greatly appreciated by everyone in Don District – especially the Scouts, who without your help wouldn’t have had a night hike at all!!

Thursday 16th April

This week’s meeting will be in Greno Woods – but at a different location!!

Meet in the Car Park off Woodhead Road at 7:30, we will be finished at the same place by approx. 9pm.

Please wear clothing suitable for the weather, including boots or trainers with a decent grip, as we’ll be walking quite a distance, and bring a torch!

If you’re coming by car, drive past the Scout HQ, then turn right onto Main Street.

Follow Main Street past the Church, Chip Shop and Old Red Lion pub. Keep going for around ¾ mile, where you will find a Car Park on your left, hopefully with a Leader or 2 waiting for you…
